San Felipe has both a prostitution and child pornography problem. There is sexual abuse of the children, from the “John” of the prostitutes. While Mom is strung out on drugs, sexual abuse occurs from family members or strangers. Many of the people who live in the arroyo area (dry river bed), are without electricity or running water. Many of the children are not able to go to school because of the fee’s and the uniform cost. As well, the local churches help with food distribution to the needy in San Felipe and beyond.
I made my first Mission’s Trip to Mexico in 2002, and found that I loved the country, culture, and most of all, the Mexican people. I knew in my heart that someday I would return to work full time in San Felipe, Baja, Mexico. My entire family has fallen in love with San Felipe! If you were to travel there, you may think we are crazy because of the heat, and the desert, but we know that God has called us, and for that reason, we feel that we are moving into the next phase of our lives and ministry. In the past, we have been involved in evangelistic outreaches, building, VBS for the children, food distribution, teaching, and working alongside the Missionaries that are presently there. Our plans are to continue in these areas, but focus on the Youth of San Felipe. Out of a population of 30,000 people, only 152 Youth attend the churches in the area. My ministry will be to work alongside the existing Church’s and Pastors as a city wide Youth Director. I will focus on developing relationships in the first year, and helping the local churches develop their youth programs. At the same time, I would like to start a Youth Leadership Team that will be able to plan city wide evangelistic outreaches, and begin active Youth Groups within the existing Churches in San Felipe. Some other duties may include:
•Organize short term missions trips to San Felipe
•Assisting in vocational/skill training
•Building projects
•Adopt a Youth (for education)
